Restoration

Morrinton Quarry

As a business, we take our responsibilities towards stewardship of our land, our operations and our community very seriously. This includes sympathetic restoration of our worked-out quarries. We have been looking at potential for trees and other appropriate species identified in the Local Biodiversity Action Plan.

Due to the small footprint of the extraction area at Morrinton Quarry, the potential for progressive restoration is limited but the design aims to push back the uppermost faces to their limit during early phases. Natural materials can then be spread to create growing medium and either plant or allow local species to regenerate naturally while quarrying continues at lower levels.

At the end all building and plant will be removed. The quarry overburden (clay and weathered rock) will be used in the lower areas and the area returned to grassland with woodland planting.
